FILLER

Dermal fillers are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalize the skin. Dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid. It is a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body.

Fillers revitalize and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look.

They are long-lasting but not permanent.

The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last from 6 months to 2 years.

How can fillers enhance your appearance:

  • Smooth out lines around nose and mouth (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)

  • Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks or temples

  • Diminish vertical lip lines

  • Plump & enhance the lips

  • Smooth out a chin crease

  • Improve symmetry among facial features

PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Dermal fillers must not be administered if you have had any vaccines, immunizations, procedures, illnesses, or dental work in the past two weeks and for an additional two weeks after fillers.

  • Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of the ingredients, suffer from any neurological or autoimmune disorders, are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, or have any active inflammatory processes (cysts, pimples, rashes, hives).

  • To minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John's Wort and omega-3 capsules.

  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.

  • Consider taking OTC Arnica tablets 2-3 days prior to appointment to help minimize bruising

  • Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.

  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any "anti-aging" products for two days before and after treatment.

  • Come with clean face to appointment

POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • You may have significant swelling after injections, especially if lips were treated. Applying ice/cool compresses to the treatment area helps to reduce swelling. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off five times a day is a general guideline. Avoid direct ice/frozen packs directly on the skin.

  • It is normal to feel hardness, tenderness, or lumps over the next 2 weeks as the filler settles into place.

  • Avoid pressure to the areas of the face that were treated as this could move the filler from the area treated

  • Avoid smoking and using a straw after lip fillers

  • No lipstick for 24 hours. Apply Aquaphor with a clean Q-Tip

  • Taking an over-the-counter antihistamine (Zyrtec, Claritin) daily may help with swelling.

  • You may have bruising that develops immediately after the treatment but can take up to 48 hours to be noticeable. Most bruising that occurs will resolve with time on its own.

  • You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol for pain. It is best to avoid aspirin or NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen because they may increase your potential to bruise.

  • Once fully healed two weeks out from your initial injection, if you feel any lumps or bumps in the treated area, you may massage the lumpy area with constant pressure for two minutes and repeat up to five times a day. If the lumps or bumps are bothersome to you, please call our office.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activity for the remainder of the treatment day (including yoga, pilates, etc). You may resume other normal activities immediately and exercise after 24 hours.

  • If you experience any redness, itching, or welts, please call our office. Benadryl is an over the counter medication that can help.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising and/ or swelling.

  • We recommend waiting a minimum of 2 weeks before receiving any facial, facial massage, skin care, or laser treatments to the face.

  • Additional treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired level of correction.

  • If you develop paleness, coolness (temperature) to the skin, increasing pain, or a rash that starts to develop on your face please call Celsius as this may be a sign of a vascular occlusion

COMPLICATIONS:

  • Call our office during office hours if you experience any of the following: increasing pain, significant bruising or darkening around the treatment area, noticing change in temperature to the skin surrounding the treatment area, fever over 100.5 or any other concerns you might have. If it is not during office hours, contact your doctor or go to the emergency room.
