SCULTPRA
Sculptra is a bio stimulator, which is a cosmetic procedure to smooth fine lines and deep wrinkles.
Sculptra consists of poly-L-lactic acid. A healthcare provider will inject this bio stimulator underneath your skin where you want a fuller or smoother appearance. Poly-L-lactic acid is a collagen stimulator that absorbs into your body a few days after treatment to encourage your cells to produce more collagen. Collagen is a protein in your skin - as well as in your connective tissues, bones and cartilage - that provides structure, support and strength.
After the age of 20, we lose 1% of our collagen each year which is why people refer to it as the 401k for your face as it is a regenerative treatment to restore lost collagen and elastin. This treatment typically takes 6 weeks for people to start to see results and 6 months for final results. Most patients will need 2-3 rounds of treatments for desired results that last anywhere between 2-3 years.
PRE & POST CARE
PRE CARE
Similar to other injections, it’s crucial to stay clear of any blood-thinning medications and supplements for 7 days prior to your appointment to decrease swelling and bruising. Examples include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, vitamin E, and fish oil. Additionally, avoid alcohol 24 hours before your appointment as it is also a blood thinner. If you’re prone to bruising easily, consider taking arnica supplements 3 days leading up to your appointment.
POST CARE
Rule of Five: massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after treatment. Hold ice packs on the treated area gently for about 3-5 minutes a few times that day. Do not get a facial or massage for 2 weeks after. Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible. Treated areas may be red, swollen, and bruised for the first 2-7 days.
Bruising can be covered with make-up; use yellow tinted concealers to camouflage blue/purplish bruising. A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment, this is normal. Over time, Sculptra will replace lost collagen.
